common problems
I don't know if anyone posted this question yet because the thread is so long but can somone please give post a list of the exact parts needed for the intake manifold and coolant tube sitiuations. I had a friend tell me to just replace the whole upper manifold along with the lower gaskets but thats it. Is there anything else that I need? Can someone tell me where to get all of these parts cheap? I appreciate the help guys. I wanna do everything that I can now to prevent a big problem later

I really hate to say this because this is a very informative thread...but after reading over this stuff it makes a prospective buyer (like myself) do a lot of second guessing about buying one of these cars. I did a lot of similar research before I bought my Grand Prix and found that there were some year models to stay away from. It seemed that 97-98 were plagued with a good deal of water leak and electrical issues. There has also been the upper and lower intake leak problems but 00-01-up was supposed to have recieved a revised EGR stovepipe to help this issue. There have also been the wheel hub although I havent had to do one yet. Some 4 door cars have the regulator problem as well. I suppose when you lump all this info in one spot it becomes a little overwhelming, when if it comes over years of driving and plenty of miles it may not be so intolerable.
Thanks to everyone who has helped compile this list, it has been a great resource.

A list such as this can be quite overwhelming, especially when you look at the page count. Plus, some of the things that made the list are not necessarily "common", but still informative in that it gives a possible solution if you experience it.
The most common problems, that many people experience are:
Intake gasket problems. This is also a common problem for the 95-99s so is not specific to the 2000+. Replacing the upper (for the L36) with the APN kit, and the lower with the GM aluminum framed gasket should solve this problem.
Intermediate steering shaft. GM has issued a different design. Time will tell if it solves the problem.
Rear window regulators. Repair information is available in techinfo.
Like any complex electronic/mechanical device - things will break. The 2000+ is a more complex vehicle. Other problems occur, but are less common than these.

The thing is all cars have there isues, some more than others, but thru the people on this site all of these issues can be fixed for a minimal cost .I knew nothing of fixing cars and between both my bonnies I fixed many things with the help of this club . This club has saved me thou$ands and has given me abundance of knowledge , and confidence to work on my cars and help others.I never thought I would be able to change upper intake gaskets, ac compressor, window regulator, alternators ,fix leaks , wheel bearings , ignition module coils , sensors , tuneups , so much more. I will always own some kind of GM even with the there issues known ahead of time.

I have a 2001 Bonneville and have the following problems, some of which I have no clue in how to fix.
Gas Gauge doesn't work. Reads full pretty much all the time unless sitting parked for a few minutes then goes completly over to empty.
Oil Pressure gauge is all the way over to right when engine is running.
No overhead interior lights.
Leaking trunk.
Pealed paint on radio buttons.
Clunking in steering wheel.
Thumping or clunking from rear of car when coasting at slow speeds.
Both rear window regulators, one fixed, the other fixed later this week.
Half of my radio, ac controls and dash lights don't work.
I have 2 more payments on my car and I refuse to buy another car for another 5 years. Any help fixing these problems would be great. I am a female but can do most things mechanical. If I can't I am sure my husband (diesel mechanic, hydrolics mechanic, auto electrician) can do it.
