Angry 03 sle surging

Changed fuel filter last week , was kinda jumpy under hard acceleration , tonight idled for 4 hours took off started surging it was almost like all i could get it to turn was about 5k rpm then service engine soon light started flashing but went out , idled for another hour this time when i left i left wide open throttle and held it took about 2 miles to get to 110 mph held for ever at 5k rpm after that i stopped and stomped it and it left fine plenty of power it was almost if it just needed blowing out but after a mile or so started surging again and service engine soon light has remained lit every since , will be tomorrow b4 can put it on machine , I'm sorta thinking either catys or possible weak fuel pump or filter stopped up again or perhaps o2 censers ANY IDEAS ?

flashing ses is misfire, which can be icm, wires, coils, plugs, or one or all of the injectors not doing what they are supposed to (lack of presure). those are the common ones. flashing ses means dont drive it, certainly dont beat on it, now you may have damaged your cats too

Get your car scanned for diagnostic trouble codes (Autozone does it for free) and tell us what the code is. JW is right about not pushing the car until you fix this. If this is a misfire due to missing spark, you are dumping raw fuel into the exhaust. You could blow up your cat.

Misfires can be spark related (spark plug, spark plug wire, ignition coil, ICM), fuel related (fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injector) or mechanical. Get it scanned to which it is and we can help you fix it.

with single cyl you have a couple options for troubleshooting, you can trade parts with working cylinders to see if your code moves. wires and plugs are a good idea if they havent been done in a while. if thats not it i would trade that coil with another, pay attention to the tabs on the icm they like to corrode. single cyl misfires can be caused by the icm but its not the norm. if that doesnt do it i would move the #4 injector see if that does it.

It'* possible something went threw the fuel line and plugged an injector. Keep an eye on it. If you get another bad miss, if possible at the time. Pull the plug on the problem cylinder. If the plug is wet or black, you have a weak spark. If it'* really white or light gray, your lean on fuel.
