SO I removed it, cleaned out the channel really well, then got some windshield trim adhesive caulk and reinstalled the trim. I haven't had trouble with it since, and it'* been about a year. I did it without any help. So I believe it can be done without removing the windshield, and alone. How to remove it undamaged when it'* in there good and tight, I can't tell you. I can tell you the ends slip under the side gutter trim, so you'll have to pull one end forward, and then carefully work your way around, removing it from the groove in the windshield seal.
