I have a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville Se it has 113,000 well maintained miles on it. I recently changed the power steering pump and high pressure hose.But that is not the problem,the problem is when I step on the gas I hear a whining noise and seem to have lost some power.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be?

Sounds like you have a leak in you intake gaskets

I dont see anything leaking like antifreeze or smell anything. I was thinking it might be something in the belt area? I have a new water pump,belt tensioner,new belt but the only thing I didnt change is the alt. If it is the intake,how much does something like that cost to have repaired?

I don't know why an intake leak would cause a whir.

Take the belt off and let it idle for long enough for you to determine if the noise is still present.

The rear bearings on the alternator have been known to be an issue. It is usually described as more of a squeal, than a whirring sound, though.

On letting it idle w/o the belt. Keep in mind that the water pump is driven off that belt. If you start it up w/o the belt and don't hear the noise, then it'* an accessory or pulley.

Turn each by hand feeling for any lack of smoothness or wobbling.

Could we have a belt tensioner in the initial phase of failing :?:
