Dave, mine has been doing this occasionally too, but only when cold. We have aging TC solonoids. They're a bit slow in the morning, and if it doesn't lock up the TC in a specific amount of time, I think the PCM is commanding it to give up so it doesn't burn out the solonoid trying.

Getting old sucks, doesn't it?

Is yours temp-dependent also?

When I test drove a 95' LSS */C the trans would jolt whenever i'd touch the gas once the car reached operating temperature. When I shifted the selector into 3 it would get worse. One month later I took that car to a machanic to see if I sould buy it. On the way there I noticed the TC would not lock up. I brought this to the machanics attention and after he looked it over told me that the silinoid had warped due to heat. He said that it may still lock up when its warm but it would take at least a few minutes of driving before it does.

mine goes out of o/d after you drive at highway speeds sometime in 2-3 miles sometimes more the tps was tested with a ohm meter (I did not test it the trans shop did per my request) mine will not come out of o/d till you turn the key off and on I don't know about the tranny getting hot but the little driving being done on it prob cant get it that hot. The tc on the car works ( you can turn it on and off and the light comes on and off and I have tryed to spin the tires and it seems to work

I wouldn't do anything else until you got a scantool on that car while driving it.

Most trans shops know trannies. And nothing else. Knowing the parameters that prevent TCC lockup is another thing. You need a FSM and scantool, or a member here that has them. Or you need someone familiar with the 3800, not just the trans.
