Does anybody know if the 1995 Bonnevilles are ODB-II compliant? Mine seems to have the correct connector, but I've heard that the computer wasn't compliant until 1996. Has anybody tried using a Tech2 or an AutoTap on their '95?

I believe that is correct. It'* the same years as the grand prix'* I believe, so it has to be like 96-97 and up.

I am seriously considering a scan tool for my '95 SSEi (series 1 SC). Looking at a few scan tool sites:

http://www.obd2.com/personal/personal_gmobdi.htm

http://www.autotap.com/faq.html

they show the OBD 1 + 2 connectors. The connection I found (under the dash at the drivers knees) is exactly like the OBD 2 and not the OBD 1. Does this mean I have an OBD 2 connection or do I have just the plug and do I still get the OBD 1 tool? If I get an OBD 1 tool, will the connectors fit together? :?

I just want to make sure I get the right one since I hear that the OBD 2 didn't come into play until '96.

I am also wondering how much information I will be able to pull from this. Will it tell me if a cylinder is missfiring, timings off, various sensors gone bad, or ....?

jeff, try using a Tech II with either a Tech I adapter or Tech II adapter. I do believe it'* still OBD I though.

Deathrat is wright, Jeff all of the 95 models are OBD I, with the OBD II connector. I think If I am correct the PCM for the 94 model year is the same. But might have the old connector. The 1996 and later model years are OBD II compliant. Regaurdless of the 94 & 95'* being OBD I, they can give us a world of info as to what is going on with the engine management system.. If you are not sure what your car is, look at the emissions label on the radiator cover, it will tell you which system you have..
You hit the nail on the head. Found the label and it is an OBD 1 PCM with a OBD 2 connector. Just gotta find the right tool for it now.

Any suggestions???

jr's3800,

Where did you get your scan tool? I've been looking for one, but don't want to spend a whole lot of money. Thanks for your help.
