Hmm.. I hope this fixes your issue, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking that false knock doesn't break engines. Although we never did get a definitive answer on what killed the last two did we?

The first engine, I'm sure it was a cam bearing. I found metal in the oil but all the rod bearings looked good. When I was changing the cam in that engine I bumped the fender and the cam hit the bearing.

The second engine I'm sure was a rod bearing, hard to dispute that one. I suspect it was a bad prime on the oil pump and it was started to soon.

Third engine I was Mr. paranoid. I cranked it until the mechanical pressure gauge had full pressure

The reason I think it'* false knock is because I pulled timing from the problem area in excess of what I was reading and still got the same amount. I was down to single digit timing with no boost.

Each engine had different knock sensors. Only the PCM has a knock sensor that has not been changed. Bill and I have discussed this as a possibility a few times, but kept putting it off.

Well good luck to you, and if that doesn't work are you planning on checking wiring?

The wiring harness will be changed at the same time as the PCM. Next step is to change the radiator cap.

The 96 and 97 used different wiring harnesses from the 98+. Technically the harness again changed in 2000 with the body style, but the pinouts to the pcm changed from 97 to 98 with the change in pcm.

The knock module is possible and I got a text from 95NASTA asking if Dan had tried that yet. It'* worth a shot. Now instead of worrying about the pcm'* knock module... I have the 99 harness that I adapted to my 97. The only issues Dan will run into are that the tps is a N* plug instead of an L67 plug and the map sensor is an L32 sensor. So I'll probably send along an L32 map sensor (better cause it doesn't overhang the exhaust and turn crispy) and a connector to swap the L67 tps back on.

Dan..shoot me that email and I'll do what I can to get that out asap.
