If it'* a bad TC or stator, then you might as well rebuild the trans. You need to go in far enough that it'* worth finally rebuilding.
You'll find it'* much more fun than the previous disassembly and reassmbly that you've done. Long as you are there, update the VB etc and put some snap back in the trans. When I had my trans rebuilt...I ripped the front motor mount in half within a block of Intense. It'* amazing how sloppy the valve body from 97 can get over the years and how worn clutches etc can give the trans that extra cushion from transmitting the real off the line tire smoking torque to the wheels.
