Default The SSExi project v3.5

Yep, here we go again. Because this is the same block, it only goes to v3.5 The problem is still there. I have replaced every last part but one, and that is the part that is coming out. The cam is all that is left. So here we go, again.

It starts.

About a hour and a half of work, perhaps a bit more and it'* all ready to be lifted out. All that'* left is the right motor mount, and 4 bolts on the bell housing.

You know the drill, assume the position.

Popped right out with very little effort.

Just need to mount on the stand.

All done. Total time from start to mount was 3 hours. And that was stopping to eat lunch.

The only problems I had was the diff to engine mount. Because I only have one working eye I was having a hard time seeing in that area. Also, had a very hard time putting the socket on things like bolts and spark plugs, depth perception is really effected. And getting one bolt off the header crossover was a problem. Should have hit that when I was under the car.

You know what, I hardly get dirty anymore. The only problem is I think I'm wearing out all my bolts.

This is what I believe to be the offending part. I looked it over real close, but see nothing with my one good eye.

I sure hope so. Because I have replaced every other part that could cause the problems I'm having.

If you look at this scan, you can see how I have KR each time I give it a little gas, it'* there each time. And I get up to 14.9* of KR at times. 3 engines, same KR, same area, same conditions.

I have changed the tune from my custom tune, to a intense box tune, to a stock L67 tune, to a stock L26 tune, no change. I have replaced the harmonic balancer, no change, I replaced the flex plate, no change, I replaced lifters and push rods, I have changed heads, I have used 3 different short blocks, each with it'* own set of pistons and crank. Each engine has had all new sensors. No change. Nothing on the top of the engine, supercharger and intercooler can do this, so that'* not on the list. The transmission can eat it'* self and not destroy a engine. So that leaves one last part that has been transfered from all 3 engines, and that'* the cam. I only hope the short time the engine has been run has not damaged the bearings. That'* a wait and see thing. It is possible the cam is bent, or cracked, or has been dropped. I just don't know. But it'* not going back in my engine. Once it'* back up and running, and if the problem is gone, I will know, the cam was the problem. If the problem is still there, then I'm at a total lose.

Looks like a normal used cam to me. As expected, there'* a loss of luster on each lobe where it contacts the lifters, but like my stock cam, there'* no wear beyond the finish as far as I can see.

The only thing that looks off is that the spaces in between each lobe are brown. Not that I'd expect a color to induce knock, mind you.

I'm guessing it'* false knock from vibrations caused by a loose bolt, worn mount, improperly-torqued bolt, or something that nobody thinks to check.
