Default squeak, smoke, pop

Well about a month ago i picked up a 1998 bonne SE with about 148,000 in it, when i got it there was not to many problems just a few things had to be replaced due to age, well now she is starting to smoke out the tailpipe, it started off not to bad then it seemed to worce now when sitting at idle she starts to produce a cloud of it in the air not huge amont but enough to annoy you, and you can smell the oil in it, well when you start to drive it it goes away, when you come to a stop and then begain to acc she starts to leave a trail of smoke when you get to about 20 then its gone, i have done an oil change on it and added some no smoke, did not work then i added some lucaus oil additive and it seems thats when it started to smoke more, i have a feeling that the rings are goign bad on it and right now i do not have the money to buy a reman block for it, i can do all the other work my self but i was hopeing that someone here has had the same problem and found a way to bypass that for now and get away from the embarrasing smoke, any sugestions? also my car just recently started to squeak real bad from the back , say you run over them spead bumps it sounds like 1000 rats behind you and fills the naborhood with noise, any bump or ruff road and the squeaks very bad, anyone had this problem as well? i think there is probley some parts that needs to be lubed up, any sugestions? also i noticed that when sitting at idle when i rev the engine the exaust starts to pop what could be the cause? thanks antonio

Welcome! First off, not to offend, but take some time to read this -

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=73691

and then rewrite your post. Run on sentences are very hard to read.

But from what it sounds like, your lower intake gaskets are failing. It is strongly urged to drain your oil, and replace the gaskets ASAP, along with a new upper intake. They are most likely leaking by now.

El...

I fear that you may have an upper intake manifold going bad and very soon it will hydrolock the motor. In case this is true..please read this link and our known ways to fix the problem before the motor is bad.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38

On the idea of this being oil...I'd doubt it. Check your coolant level and oil levels for confirmation. You would be quite low on oil if you are burning that much.

On your squeak.. most likely the rear sway bar bushings have seized onto the sway bar. I would remove the bushings and lube where they attach to the bar.

As for the backfire.. if you are revving to 4K rpm.. you have found the rev limiter in Park/Neutral. Or the issue you are having is causing the noise.

That was a big help!, thanks a bunch. You said that it sounds like my upper intake seems to be GOING OUT? The intake it self or the gasket?

Do yourself a big favor and click on the link Bill included in his post above. That will explain all you need to know on the subject. Or at least it will educate you enough so that you can move forward with your repair with only detailed questions required.

Believe me the TECHNFO article he linked will help you.

I did read it and found it a very big help. But what i had noticed was that he said that it sounds like my UPPER INTAKE sounds to be going out. The intake it self or the gasket?

Well, if you really read the article carefully, you would have noticed that there are two issues at play here.

1) The Upper Intake Manifold FAILS. The actual intake itself. That is the main crux of the article.

2) The Lower Intake Manifold GASKETS also fail. That is part two of the article.

I would guess that you maybe only skimmed the article at first.

To further educate yourself, you might also want to do a couple quick searches here on the forum, using the terms "UIM", "LIM Gaskets", or other combinations of them. You will get many hits and see how many have dealt with the problems.

Here on BC, the problem has been well documented and we have identified the least expensive and most permanent methods of repairing/fixing these issues.

Well i went back threw the artical and seen where it said, When the intake begins to go it produces white smoke out the tail pipe. That is what she is doing. So should i just suck it up and buy a new intake and replace the lower gasket to be on the safe side?

Yes!

And the sooner, the better. Like Bill said, as bad as yours sounds, it is a very real possibility that you will fill a cylinder with coolant and hydrolock the motor. NOT a good thing, that'* all she wrote.

About the best solution we know of here, for replacing the UIM, is to purchase an APN UMI replacement kit, since they have the steel sleeve insert to protect the failure area and their price is right. Dorman'* kits are getting better all the time and are often available from your local autoparts store, so that is another option.

You will also want to purchase the aluminum-framed LIM gaskets referenced in the article from a GM dealer. Usually around $60.

For right now, you need to seriously consider parking your car and draining the oil right now. That coolant will do serious damage if enough is in the oil and sets for ANY period of time.

More than one person here has done the UIM LIM gasket repair, but let the motor set for a week or two with that bad oil in it. Then shortly afterwards, they experienced bearing failure, which = new motor time.
