Rough idle and missing while driving
I have a 97 bonni 3800. about a month ago it seemed to almost die when I would come to a stop or sometimes it would miss and jurk the car when I was driving. The check engine light does come on sometimes. I just changed the plugs and wires but it did not help. I was wondering if the paper clip trick worked on my 97 to get the codes? I also have started to hear a rattle from the cat. Would it hurt to remove the cat? This car is not a beauty so I'm not worried about a light on, just don't want to create more issues. Thanks for the help I would also like any help on suggestions on what might be causing the missing.

P0102 - MAF Sensor Circuit Low Freq.
It seems to me like this is the main problem. You could try cleaning your MAF sensor and checking the electrical connector, click on the link for more ideas/info.
P0300 - Random Misfire
You might have fixed this already by replacing plugs and wires, but something else could be causing it as well. More info if you click it.
As for the P1406, I can't seem to find it in the OBD II Troubleshooting Guide. Someone else will probably be able to help more with this one.

Yeah, OBD-II cars (1996 and up) can only use paperclips for programming key fobs. You'll need a code reader, but you've already gotten the codes, so…
We have writeups on most of these codes.
P0102 indicates a MAF sensor problem. Check the wiring to the MAF sensor.
P1406 indicates an EGR issue. I can't help you on that one, but perhaps that link or a good search can.
P0300 is a random misfire. That sounds fun to track down, in the same way that washing your car with a cotton ball is fun. For your sake, though, this code generally goes hand-in-hand with another.
