Default P1406 Digital EGR

Well, I have been getting the EGR pintle performance code for awhile now. I removed the EGR, and before cleaning in the pintle moved plenty freely. I cleaned it anyway, and installed a new gasket, and I'm still getting the P1406 code randomly.

So is it safe to say my EGR is shot? Will running with a broken EGR cause any problems? Performance? Mileage? Where should I look for another?

Thanks Guys.

Do you have 5 volts power going to it?

You don't have a digital EGR. You have a linear EGR. And the Linear'* don't respond to cleaning as well as the Digitals. This is typically a remove and replace kinda thing.

It can cause driveability, performance, mileage, and emissions issues.

When I had this code it was solved by replacing 15 Amp fuse on passenger site, but if your cruise control works, then it'* not the fuse.
It'* #5 fuse on my 1995 SSEi and it'* in cirquitry of EGR,Evapor purge solenoid, cruise control and boost control solenoid.
In my case all of above didn't work properly.

Thanks for the info boss. That is quite the list...I'm sure I can find one at the wreckers.

A new AC Delco unit is around $150.

My 1996 just threw the P1406 code, and I found this thread under a search. Weird thing is, mine will clear itself and the car will run normally after a few shut downs and re-starts.
It'* happened before, though- car suddenly starts running real roughly, check engine light comes on. Guess I definitely need an EGR valve, new or used. Any issues taking a chance on a used one?

Question about EGR replacement: are the two bolts that attach it prone to rust and seizing? Do they usually come off easily, or have people snapped them when loosening?

Dunno, please...feel free to start your own thread that isn't 3 years old and post your issues so we can help you with the most current info/knowledge that we have.

Not sure what you are trying to do... only assumption I can make is you have a P1406, which could be a map sensor or other things.
