Default Oh Crap, UIM or Engine Failure?

Just got my 95 SE all back up to snuff. New ECM, struts, tires, brakes, alignment, etc.

Then today, it started sputtering and I just *barely* made it into my driveway. Now it'* hydrolocked I think. Cyl #3 is full of OIL (not antifreeze). Is this an UIM problem?

At this point, I'd be tempted to simply start tearing it down. It'll speed up the diagnosis and the repair.

Default It was the UIM gasket

The plastic gasket was split around the area of the little pipe that comes out of the manifold. Replaced the whole UIM, cleaned injectors, throttle body, etc. Man was that nasty. Runs awesome now. Did I err by not replacing the head gaskets while I had it partially torn apart? What kind of life can I expect from the engine based on the somewhat limited facts I've put out this far? 50k more miles??

One other thing, we put Dexcool in it, although the old stuff was the green coolant. Will this be a problem? I would have used green stuff but my dad did it while I was away.

First of all, the head gaskets rarely fail.

Secondly, I hope you changed the oil before your crank bearings and rods rust.

Third, I'm not a fan of dexcool, although some have switched. I hope you didn't mix them, though, otherwise flush immediately. They're not compatible. Did you use the improved UIM?

95greense: Could I have your old UIM? I'll pay postage. You can use the shipping container the new one came in.

I'm sleeving them for members here who have failed UIMs.

Did you change the lower intake gaskets, too? If you run into this again, and you didn't change them, you should consider doing it. IMO, the lower intake gaskets are just as important to change as the lousy GM UIM.
