Noise under the hood
Usually I have no problem finding the source of noises, even when one of my kids take my stethoscope and forget to bring back; but I'm pulling my hair off with this one.
The noise sounds sort of like an exhaust heat shield rubbing on the asphalt. At first I though it was something loose under the hood rubbing on one of the pulleys.
It happens only when making a sharp right turn (forward or reverse) and I don't need to go fast.
I rode around at a cul-de-sac at the end of my street while laying on top of the engine with the hood open. It seams to be coming from center, between the engine and the firewall, but I can't be sure.
The noise doesn't follow exactly but it changes with the engine when I have it in neutral.
I have the sound recorded but I can't attach it. I could e-mail to whoever wants to hear it.
Ideas anyone
Thanks

One of the rubber rings near the cat was gone. I replaced it it didn't make any difference.
It'* not the heat shield between the exhaust and the lower frame where they ran the transmission cooling lines.
trans fluid level is slightly high but good.
The motor mounts are old but they are not broken and split.
I just noticed something. When pulling into my garage, there is a small step up from my driveway. I can in a little faster then normal and as the car came up the step, it made the same noise very brief.
I also notice this last test that the noise is sensitive to the side G force. If I'm going faster, a little tunr of the wheel will do, if I'm going slower I need to turn the wheel more for the noise to show.
I lifted this car more then 10 times already... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The darn problem is probably staring me in the face and I just can't see it. Good thing it'* not a snake or it would bite me,
Thanks

I might have found the darn thing.... I hope.
I checked the lower motor mount near the engine output (torque converter housing) from the top and it looked fine. When checking from under the car from the back I found one of the bolts loose.
I'm not sure yet how it goes together but I'll work on it the next couple days and post the results.
Thanks Dan.

I don't know if this might help, but on my 95 bonne, the power steering pulley is loose or whatever. It was making a small noise, that turned into a bigger noise before I found it. Same thing. Phantom sound, couldn't locate it. (shrugs)
It also is worse in turns and a few things you describe, but it is more like a knocking or clicking.
