How about a little more information.

Your mention of no lights on dash was tough for me to understand, did you mean no security light, no brake light no any lights on the dash or did you mean that you haven't really noticed in the past which things light up and now you noticed things weren't lightling up? Many times we don't notice what the normal condition is ...and then mention something about it during a problem... which makes it confusing.

Does the engine turn over by hand?
Does the starter crank over the engine if jumped?
Is there 12+V at the soleniod wire when the key is engaged?
Is threre 12+V and enough cranking amps at the postivie battery lead to the starter?

when the park/nuetral switch is grounded it will turn over but will not fire.

sorry i did not give enough info. in my first post i did say there were no lights on the dash except radio and heat and the security light flashes. all terminals are clean and there is plenty of power getting to the starter. the guy that has it got it to turn over by grounding the park/nuetral switch he tells me put there was no fire. he also jumped the VATS with no success.
