Change the fluid before you do anything else. Mine was changed at 40,000 miles and I'm going to have it changned at ~80,000

yes i kno i have to change the fluid...but im not 100 percent positive but i think the manual says to change the fluid at 100k...im just wondering if there is anything that is a known problem that would cause the fluid to burn, instead of me changing the fluid then having to do it again to change a part

Corsa, please post mechanical problems/questions in the 92-99 Section. I'll move this for you.

The fluid is most likely burnt because it is old. 100K is not considered high mileage on these cars. However fluid change/filter should be performed about every 30K miles.

Being overdue, go ahead get it changed and professionally flushed if you have the funds (approx. $80). This should clean up the fluid and help it run better.

(Corvettecrazy and Mortehl recently did a fluid/filter service and both found their shifting etc to be smoother.)
