need tranny help plz

ive got a 96 bonneville sle and it was something little that i noticed today with my car...when im cruisin on the highway and i give a little gas and it shifts from 3rd to 4th it feels like there is a slight delay and it even felt like a small rattle at one point...is this a known problem with these tranny's in the high mileage (103K miles)...my father said it could b the lockup solenoid but he's not sure....o and another thing i checked the tranny fluid and its burnt...so before i change the fluid i wanna know if anybody has any help they can give me...thank u very much in advance

well heres the thing...my father doesnt kno if it has ever been changed...it was my mothers car before it was mine...so im guessing probably never

Change the fluid before you do anything else. Mine was changed at 40,000 miles and I'm going to have it changned at ~80,000

yes i kno i have to change the fluid...but im not 100 percent positive but i think the manual says to change the fluid at 100k...im just wondering if there is anything that is a known problem that would cause the fluid to burn, instead of me changing the fluid then having to do it again to change a part

Corsa, please post mechanical problems/questions in the 92-99 Section. I'll move this for you.

The fluid is most likely burnt because it is old. 100K is not considered high mileage on these cars. However fluid change/filter should be performed about every 30K miles.

Being overdue, go ahead get it changed and professionally flushed if you have the funds (approx. $80). This should clean up the fluid and help it run better.

(Corvettecrazy and Mortehl recently did a fluid/filter service and both found their shifting etc to be smoother.)
