Hey.. sure could us some input. I just had my engined replaced on my 93' Bonny, caused by water in the crankcase. Well it spun my bearings and junked the crank. So I had my garage put in a reman engine. Well the first 350 miles were great, but now my oil gauge is hunting.. (just like it did before she blew). They replace the oil sensor with the new engine... Any suggestions would be helpful. I don't think this is normal. the pressure is over 40 to just below 60lbs. But the damn needle is driving me crazy.. Am I getting water in my crank again?.. All this happens when I am driving.. in park and holding a steady rev around 2500 rpm the gauge is steady as a rock.. What do ya'll think?.. Thanks.. This is a great site.. [/b]

Yes definitely check the oil pump out but the play in your gage sometimes occurs, I have had several vehicles that have had the same problem if your oil pump isn't bad then I would'nt worry none.

Well at work in the last month alone, we've quoted or rebuilt 5 3800'*!!!!! My own 3800 is included too.

All were diagnosed with excessive oil bearing clearance. A couple were because of the oil pump, most were because of a conn rod bearing spinning though. My own was diagnosed with a conn rod bearing noise due to using too light (thin/slippery) of an oil for the oil pump to handle!

First thing to do is to have the oil pressure sender checked (or replaced).
Secondly, switch to a slightly heavier oil to see if noise goes away. If it does, either the oil pump is weak or you've got conn rod bearing problems.

Your oil pressure is fine. All engines fluctuate some as the engine moves up and down the RPM range, more or less volume is pushed through a static cavity and Voila! Oil pressure fluctuates normally. FWIW, any significant volume of water in your crankcase would cause a noticeable drop in pressure...you wouldn't be worrying about 60 psi then. So long as your idle psi is 40+ and 60 on the upper end, it'* right where you want it to be. Actually, I thought the pressure relief spring in 3800'* jumps to life at about 60 psi, so you CAN'T have higher than a 60psi reading unless your gauge/sending unit is screwy. Drive and enjoy!

Since 1999 my oil presure gauge moves when I push the gas peddle. on a stop light it'* in the middle and when I push the gas it moves all the way too the right. Usually when the car is cold the guage is all the way to the right. The first time I noticed this problem, when I was driving through Arkansa - from Chicago heading to Houston. I just pulled over at a McDonalds and put a half quart of oil and it level off to the middle, then 15 minutes later it just returned. I've put about 20,000 miles on the car with out a problem. Although I took the car to Mexico and while I was there I had to replace the spark-plug module. Other than that the car engine works great (123,000 miles). If anyone can help me find the problem please reply.....I'm tired of people asking why is your oil gauge doing that?

This may or may not help, but when I noticed my oil pressure getting suspiciously high, I went for an oil change and had the filter replaced. Seemed to work. Now on the Aurora, the pressure is monitored electronically by the on board computer and its always fluctuating
