Belt Problem

Belt Problem
I have a 92 Bonneville SE. Looking around I found posts saying that motor mounts had to be removed. The year of that post I looked at was for a 96. Looking at the belt it doesn't appear to be looped around anything other than the pulleys. Another post said to "put a 3/8 drive ratchet in the tensioner and push" but I found no place to insert the ratchet. Sorry if this question has been asked many times, but i wasn't able to find what i was looking for. If someone could help me find how to move or remove the tensioner i would really appreciate it.

Yes your belt is routed around the motor mount as opposed to through it.... All you need to do is get an 18mm wrench( Long if possible ) or a breaker bar with an 18mm Socket... I have always removed my belts with a 3/8'* ratchet and an 18mm socket... Make sure you are trying to loosen the bolt to relieve the tension on the belt... Make sense....
The bolt that is in the tensioner pulley is actually a left handed thread, so if you tried to tighten it you would actually be removing the bolt...
I hope I havn't thrown too much confusion out there...

The bolt that is threaded though the tensioner pulley is a left-handed thread. This means you can push it towards the firewall to loosen the belt without loosening the bolt.
There are a number of posts here concerning changing the serpentine belt. Provided the '92 is the same as my '99, it takes perhaps a half-hour and is a bit easier with an assistant to hold the belt on the lower pulleys during installation while you work to aligh the upper parts.

Very easy procedure and straight forward with no motor mounts to remove.
I also agree with Bob, the assistant would be nice to have, not completely necessary though.

took just a couple minutes thanks to all of your help. I very much appreciate it, and simply didn't understand earlier because i was loking for something to stick a 3/8 driver in. Thank you again for all of the help. Saved me over $40 labor which is what the shop was going to charge.
