shouldnt be a problem then. i am also pretty sure the early vats disables starting if activated, the passkey that starts about 1999 for most models starts then shuts off the injectors.

Yes, I get the 5v.
I can start the car, it then shuts down. New filter and pump, good pressure at the rail and new regulator. All appear to be working fine.
Verified it is a fuel related by spraying carb cleaner in the throttle body.
(stays running as long as I spray) so something is shutting down the injectors.
This still seems to be pointing to a bad BCM.
By all the forums I have been looking at it would point to this as being a bad BCM as it starts then shuts down.
So I am back to the question on rather or not the direct short in the lock cylinder could screw up the BCM'* ability to correctly receive the signal after the car starts.

I am going to tear into the dash and check the current at the BCM to see if it'* receiving the correct current.

check the injector plugs for power and use a test light, clip the ground lead to positive battery, and test the injector plugs for ground signal from the pcm. i dont think the bcm does anything that would shut down the engine. there is a TDM Theft deterrent module. and like i said it shuts down the starter relay as well as the fuel enable to the pcm

Ok, yeah I was thinking TDM not BCM. I'll have to get a test light to do that at the auto store.
First I got to get my dash back together, took it apart to check the security light bulb, found all bulbs good but corrosion and rust though out the board, I am going to swap it out with a better one from the wrecking yard.

Theft deterrent won't allow the engine to run then shutdown. It'* designed to prevent starting of the engine period. I do know for a fact, 1995 was/is the only year that disabled the starter. Later years was a mix of disabled fuel pump or injectors. (I need to compile a list)

If your saying the engine will start on its own, and then die, then this is an issue with the ICM handing off to the PCM. When the engine is first started, the ICM is controlling the ignition. After its started, the PCM takes over control of ignition timing.

Have you checked for any codes? Even if the light isn't on, you could have a code.

Yes, I would check for codes too......could be a code 58.....

That SECURITY LIGHT should come on for 3 seconds and go out, when the key is turned to "on"(don't crank).....

One thing to try, spray carb cleaner into the intake while cranking.....if it runs as long as you spray, and dies when you stop, it'* either fuel pressure or the injectors are not firing....

Relearn on Passkley I or II only comes into play when the PassKey module or PCM is replaced....if the key with the correct resistance was used, a relearn is not necessary......

If this uses a starter enable relay, which I think it does, that means the module is receiving the resistance from the key, because the module would ground the relay......with no SECURITY light, either the module is bad, it is not sending a fuel enable signal to the PCM/ECM, open wire, or a bad PCM/ECM......

was just thinking if the tdm is bad and someone bypassed the relay or it was stuck on, which they sometimes do, it would start and shut down possibly. because the pcm wouldnt have the fuel enable signal and the dash would not get the light possibly depending on whats wrong with it
