Car essentials first - 1994 SSE 3.8L N/A 178,000 miles. Ok car was acting funny yesterday. Just cruising down the highway. Cars rpm would just jump up and down the tachometer. Died and wouldn't start for about 3 mins. Then car started fine and just had SES light on. Went to advance stored history code P0341 IGN System Problem-Camshaft sensor intermittant signal. Is it easy to change on your own and inexpensive. Any help would be appreciated.

might be easier to let someone that has the right tools get in there and get the job done.
I had a similar issue with the crank shaft sensor recently..... I picked up the sensor for 40 bucks and thought it would be a breeze to install. Read the instructions and decided to hand it off to a shade tree mechanic who installed it along with a new cam shaft sensor for 100 bucks(that'* including the price of the new cam sensor).
I prefer not to work on the lower front of any FWD motor, but that'* just me.

ok on the 94 SSE with the L27 it is under the alternator above the water pump(in that general area). it has a connector going to it and is held on by one bolt, it takes about 15 minutes to change and is like 20.00. My car had that problem, however your magnet could be weak or have dislodged itself from the timing gear and be causing the problem. Mine was just the magnet but i went ahead and took off the timing cover and did the magnet chain and gear just as preventative maintenance. but the sensor fixed the problem right up. Hope that helps, like i said it is an easy fix
