Default Debris in transmission

Hey there!

I changed my Bonnies tranny oil last week and I found some sort of ceramic debris on the bottom plate after I removed the oil.

A friend of mine, who studies automotive engineering, told me that it might be a part of a brack pad which slows down the gears before shifting.

The transmission still works pretty fine. The only problems is that it sometimes struggles a little when trying to shift from first to second gear. However, this only occurs from time to time.

Does anybody know what this white ceramic stuff is? Another guess was that it might be some kind of ceramic sealing altough I don't know if such seals are part of the transmission. I would appreciate any help on that one, becaus I really fear I could wreck the transmission if I continue driving wih the transmission in that state...

Greetings

Odie

"Brack Pad"??? Ain't no "Bracks" or Brakes in them there transmissions. It is normal to find some debris when you change the transmission oil on the bottom of the pan and attached to the magnet at the bottom of the pan. Did you also replace the xmission filter? What color was the fluid that came out. Did it smell burnt? You might want to check the condition of the xmission oil in 6 months.

Oh, sorry. Of course I ment brake pad. Well the oil was quit dark and it smelled burned. That brake-pad-stuff was really big and looked like ceramic. It was a little bended and looked as if a part of it was missing. As it is ceramic (I suppose) it was not attached to the magnet but was scattered on the plate. Any idea what this might be?

Sorry, I personally have no idea what this stuff is. Material from the clutch packs do wear away over time but you might have some other issues going on here. It sounds like the fluid was not changed in a long time. As I said, I would drop the pan 6 months from now and clean the pan, magnet and change the xmission oil filter. That'* about all you can do. I would NOT get a transmission power flush as that would get that loose "ceramic" debris in places that they should not be in. Good Luck.

FYI - I changed my tranny fluid and filter in a high milage 89sse and there was stuff around the magnet, but no white ceramic of any kind... snd the tranny worked great. I'm talkin' 300k miles and it was fine.

Good luck.
