I have a 91 Sonoma with a 4.3 and it is reliable. The engine is a real stump puller. Gas mileage is not the best but it is easy to maintain. Picked it up a little over 2 years ago with 74K at a cost of $34. Put $1,000.00 into it and 30K miles later it is still going strong. Nice daily commuter.
I would buy it and just take care of it with regular PM.

i was just going to use it as a daily driver. even knowing about the engine shortcomings, i still want it. if it dies, that just means it is time to do a 4.3 swap
...connected to a 5spd? that would be a little more fun than i should have. average curb weight on these monsters? anyone?

well, i FINALLY test drove the truck last night. had the money almost in my pocket and everything. bad news is, i dont fit in it :( steering wheel is in my stomach, and legs are too long for pedals, especially clutching. drove it for a few minutes and my left ankle started hurting, along with the right knee. all in all, it is a good truck, if i wasnt 6' @ 340lbs :?

I'm not a Big ford Fan, but have you ever thought of say a 93-94 F150 with the 4.9 I6 or the 5.0 V8? Those were ok for what they were and not bad to drive either...
