Hang in there Nichole.
Just give them another week. He should be home by Next Tuesday.

willwren 02-13-2008 11:01 PM

We're piecing away at it. Found a couple other things to do and other minor complications. The IC doesn't come easy.

2000SilverBullet 02-13-2008 11:03 PM

It's the Gen5 that she's waiting for. ;)

hahahah tooooo cool!

2000SilverBullet 02-13-2008 11:54 PM

:lmao

That is sooooo funny.

I think Bo looks like he belongs to O'Neil.

I'm tipping a brew as I am posting this. :beerchug:

2000SilverBullet 02-13-2008 11:56 PM

Nichole, even on your death bed with the house buried in 40 feet of snow how could you deny a man his dog. :greenbounce:

edit.....I'm laughing so hard, I have to use Kleenex.

willwren 02-14-2008 12:03 AM

Paul, it's your damn grand marnier that is to blame.

PontiacMom 02-14-2008 12:15 AM

Okay that is just too cute, but I am pretty sure I would still like to throw my arms around the one wearing the crown ;) As much as I love Bo, he just doesn't kiss the same.

2000SilverBullet 02-14-2008 12:15 AM

You still have some left :?: :!:

So have you finished the 12 yr old Scotch, the Vodka, the wine, the tequila, and the Grand Marnier too :?: :!:

Then it must me almost time for me to visit again and replenish. :P

I just today got a contract job offer in Santiago Chile for two months, all expenses paid April and May.......think I should take it :?: :P
I would have to force myself to spend a week in San Francisco for a week to get familiar with the job. I love Lombardo street. ;)

2000SilverBullet 02-14-2008 12:24 AM

Kissing is not going to fix your washer and dryer or your hamstring.

Bo on the other hand can lick your clothes clean and just look at those lucious lips. :D

......and you could probably get your arms around Bo. ;)

willwren 02-14-2008 12:31 AM

Paul BernardO, it's LOMBARD street, not LobardO. Turst a bay area native.

Hey, Bo is MUCH cuter then Pdad, and he kisses damn good according to Matt, Matt, Wendy, and John.

Greyhare don't kiss and tell, but I know his true feelings about bo.

wakefieldl 02-14-2008 10:12 AM

bo loves it too

nice job

willwren 02-15-2008 12:25 AM

Intercooler certified leak-free under pressure a few minutes ago. LIM and SC are ready to go in, front IC radiator is already installed.

We won't turn the key tonight, but will tomorrow for sure EASILY. Pdad did alot of prep work today that really saved some time.

I'll get some pics up a little later.

PontiacMom 02-15-2008 12:32 AM

PDad had better be on the road bright and early tomorrow morning. I want my husband back!!!!!! I have work ;) for him to do here!!!!!!!!!!

2000SilverBullet 02-15-2008 01:36 AM

I love Lombardo street
I meant what I said. ;)

Good luck firing her up tomorrow. Take a vid of it's rebirth. 8)

chadow427 02-15-2008 01:39 AM

Good luck with the fire-up!!

Ok. Ready for leak testing (this heat exchanger is WIDE):
Attachment 35568

Attachment 35569

Front core in. Notice the front core support is completely cut out below the top trans cooler bolt. That bolt is now welded to the bracket as a stud, and the top portion of the core support is bolted to it, and the top 3 points. It's impossible to get to the lower core support bolt or ECC exterior temp sender with the IC radiator installed. ECC temp sender is now under the front airdam:

LIM in and torqued:
Attachment 35574

Gaskets, o-rings, and sealant where needed:
Attachment 35575

Ready to roll, thanks to Pdad. He built it up for me today while I was at work:
Attachment 35576

SC bolted on, and a few vac/boost lines hooked up:
Attachment 35577

Attachment 35578

Tomorrow:
Fans
Crossover heatshield
FWI
Throttle bracket
Fuel rail
EGR tube
A little more oil
Heater hoses
Coolant bypass fittings
Upper and lower radiator hoses
Coolant
ICM grounds
Extra idler bracket and pulley
Battery
Plugs/Wires

Plumbing and wiring of the rest of the IC components (reservior, flow switch, and all tubing) will follow firing the car and driving it. The new temp sender and gauge for the LIM will arrive on Saturday. The whole thing should be wrapped up with the exception of the LSD by Sunday.

2000SilverBullet 02-15-2008 03:02 PM

I love it when a dream becomes reality. :D

Nice colour combination with the valve cover bolt seals front and rear. :P

The only thing that has me worried is the amount of volume that the new intercooler displaces inside the LIM. Flow restriction and volumetric issues. :?

Can't see the rear when everything is in.

Paul, I already calculated the restriction (posted in the P&B topic) the core flows nearly TRIPLE the amount of the outlet of the SC. It's better now than it was stock. Remember, this core isn't as long as the typical S2 intercooler core, but it's MUCH wider and a less-restrictive design to begin with. I calculated restriction based on the 1/2" serpentine tubing being a 100% restriction to flow as well, which we both know is not true.

Point being, even without the water flowing, this top end will be more efficient than it was a week ago.

J Wikoff 02-15-2008 03:37 PM

I haven't paid much attention to my thermo housing recently, but what's with the big recess in the neck?

willwren 02-15-2008 07:24 PM

Recess in the neck? Weight reduction.

Motor purrs nice and quiet. No lifter clatter at all. Silent perfect idle on first crank, killer oil pressure with the INTENSE kit.

Warming up under the strict guidance of a Pdad.

i was under the impression your daughter(s?) were much younger..

Attachment 35533

She looks my age.. 17-19? and DAMN that's trans fluid? Woulda thought it was motor oil

willwren 02-15-2008 09:09 PM

Kim graduates this year. 18 on March 6. Katie turned 13 on September 10th.

Test drive went great. Intercooler core is zero restriction, but the PCM and another gizmo have a bit of learning to do.

Fires on the first crank every time, and runs smooth. This motor also runs MUCH cooler than the original. Probably be able to go back to the 180 thermostat during winter.

Off to find some food. Haven't eaten since last night.

You eat food? I thought you drank for nourishment.
Good to see your little project is working well.
When are you going to make one up for the Series 2? :P

willwren 02-15-2008 10:31 PM

Toughter on the S2, simply because the manifold isn't this wide. Big difference.

Now that the meet is over, followup pics will go back to my S1 Intercooler topic, but I have a couple final vids to post sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, this is the worst damage Pdad and i suffered over the last week. I don't recall much worse on anyone else during the actual motor swap either:

Attachment 35531

Not bad work at all. Motor out on Saturday. Most of it back in on Sunday. Back on the street by Friday. And that's after working this week also. ;) Well done everyone, and many thanks for the help again!

2000SilverBullet 02-16-2008 12:41 AM

Meh...a little bit of blood, but that's good. 8)

Where's that smoke coming from :?:

Your intercooler is not connected up yet :!:

what's the story on the valvecovers? those are good looking. also, good luck on the new engine :D

willwren 02-16-2008 06:33 AM

This is Pdad....Bill's still a sleep, its 3:10am

I just wanted to thank everyone for a great meet, sure had a great time and some good laughs as always :D

Matt and Wendy it was pleasure meeting you two, look forward to hooking up again soon.
Mattski good luck in Fort Mac, see you soon ;)
John thanks for dinner eh! 8)
Mike, thanks for beer's, the Rogue's were tasty...burp :D
James, thanks for the bed pans and shop rags.
Bill, your wisdom is only faded by your hospitality, good luck with the new motor and see you soon.

And I'm off

myfirstbonnie 02-16-2008 11:37 AM

One question, Did the work on PDAD's car get done?

willwren 02-16-2008 11:58 AM

Paul, the smoke is from the motor swap. Typical fluid leaks burning off. Probably from Pdad dousing the rear bank of the valvetrain after he installed it (oil and cam/lifter prelube).

Eric, the valvecovers are F-body aluminum valvecovers with wrinkle coating to dissipate heat like the SC. Laser engraving as well, of course.

Intercooler isn't hooked up yet. Wiring and plumbing will be today, and will be covered in Performance and Brainstorming.

Work on Pdad's car never happened. His needle bearing grease and TB adapter never arrived in time. Irony wil prevail, and they'll arrive today. I still have all parts here, so I can match the adapter to the GenV, and build the SC. Pdad and Pmom will make another trip down soon for the install, and some pre-arranged work underneath by my local exhaust guy. ;)

Edit:

Vid of the startup (had been running about 10 seconds). Fired on the first crank, no lifter clatter at all (these are the lifters from the donor Riviera motor).
https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_MOV00934.jpg

sandrock 02-16-2008 12:45 PM

The smoke can also be outgassing of new paint too, and greasy palm prints all over the exhaust manifolds. Any motor will smoke after a swap, even brand new ones.

Sounds pretty spot-on from the video, but we are going to eventually want more...like a drive-by, or a Goodyear Roast. Yeah...... ;)

willwren 02-16-2008 12:50 PM

Damn hard to break these 245 T1R's loose, but I'll do my best. Still have alot of PCM re-learning to do, and I'd imagine I have some minor tweaks and tuning as well. This motor runs totally different (much better compression, runs cooler), and flows FAR different now with the Intercooler machining.

I'm off to install the STB and a couple other minor goodies, then to the store for fluids and 1" wire loom to hide the tubing. Lots to do today.

banned3800 02-16-2008 02:07 PM

Good to see it running... Report back in 5000 miles ;)

Oh, sorry to hear O'Neil had to leave to attend to family matters before he could do his work.

Pdad and Pmom will make another trip down soon for the install, and some pre-arranged work underneath by my local exhaust guy.
What :!: He's gonna put in an exhaust cut-out auto dump valve :?:

Your new engine sounds sweet Bill. Can't wait to see it in action. :D

erics00ls 02-16-2008 04:46 PM

Neat (The valvecovers.)
if I can find some sooner or later, I might have a new mod.

willwren 02-16-2008 06:50 PM

Well that SUX. Pdad broke down in Arlington WA on the way home. Totally blown trans. He's stuck there for a few days and out a ton of cash. :(

SSEimatt93 02-16-2008 08:15 PM

Oh man!
Thats awful about the trans!
