So long Bonnie!! RIP.........TOTALED!!
like mentioned, you're very fortunate to be able to walk away from that. ive never seen a Bonneville hit so hard in the rear. the trunk is completely gone, but the backseat is mostly intact.

That is absoultely horrifying. I'm so sorry your car is no gone. Take care of your neck, and see if you can get another Bonneville. I would feel terrible if that were to happen to me. I wish you were closer so I could hunt that guy down and at least urinate on his property or something. What a disgusting person!

ok here'* an update....
went to the doctor'* today, he checked me over. no major trauma! just abrasions, some glass cuts and a lot of soreness. i showed him a pic of the back of the car on my cell phone...his eyes widened and went WOW...said he was so suprised that i was able to walk much less even get out of the car. i told him that i didn't see him coming except for the split second before when i saw the lights in my RVmirror. so i didn't even have time enough to tense up. he said that is the same reason why a lot of drunks do not get severly injured in crashes is because they have such slow reflexes that they don't tense up either. he said if i had had time to tense up i would have come out in much worse shape. he is making out a full report that i can go pick up in a couple of days with all the info he observed and we discussed to give to the lawyers.
he then gave me a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflamitory drug. told me to take as hot a bath as i can stand with epsom salts to help the soreness. already pickup the meds and e-salts getting ready to take bath.
i have not heard anything if they caught the guy. but the state troopers went thru his truck, got the registration and insurance info of the company that owns the truck.
i will be contacting a friend of mine'* lawyer monday to start the procedures for a lawsuit.
had the guy had been sober (if so then would have been no accident) i would only press for replacement costs plus meds, etc...but since he was drunk...and several witnesses and victims testified that fact to the state troopers...i am going for everything i can from him, his company and his insurance company and the company'* insurance company!
when its all done with i want to get a 2003 SSEi....sorry Northstar guys but not interested in the V8, so 04 and 05'* are not an option. i already plan on getting the car back for salvage and putting the SC engine and tranny into my '83 Pontiac Phoenix-SJ
and the Bose sound system into my 85 X-11 i have added an electronic dash form a 6000STE into it (fully functional including DIC)
here'* the links for my cardomain sites on these cars

i took them both to the GM nationals in Carlisle in 2005. got 2nd place in the fun field for the Phoenix-SJ

back on topic... i've shown the pics to a lot of my friends and they all have the same response...WOW you walked away from that??
odd thing too....my co-worker called me friday morning on my way to work and told me that her and her husband were about 2 blocks from their house when a guy in an old pickup truck pulled out in front of them...totaled her 96 accord that she loved so much.
what are the odds on that??? 2 people from the same office of 10 people both have their favorite cars totaled on the same day and both by guys in old pickup trucks??
ok time to go soak....
thanks for the great responses and kind words...they mean a lot!
and great line toastedoats... "that'll buff right out" made me laugh, hurt, but funny!
thanks
terry

you know..I was just thinking...
since that pt cruiser is white...it looks like you were caught dead center in a white curse by mistake...you weren't supposed to be there.
but holy crap...imagine if you weren't and he had hit the pt cruiser. NO ONE would walk away from that.
That looked like such a nice car too.
I'm sure you can part it out though, lots of good interior parts.
once again, good luck with suing the HELL out of that guy.

Man that must have been a crazy hard hit, but like others have said, time and time again our cars have held up. I knew there was a reason I liked driving larger cars. Glad to hear your ok and already planning on another Bonneville. Good luck with your search, and good choice 03 SSEi

Just a little side note I was in the same type of accident with my first car a 95 grand prix. The whole front end was smashed in real good but it was above the bumper so the air bag never went off. Thank fully my head never hit the steering wheel. Since I am a big buy 6'6" tall my whole left knee and most of my thigh went threw the dash. So your not alone on getting hit by a drunk. Not fun but I didn't sue, and thats a whole long story. Glad your ok though.

Ah...I misunderstood when you say the guy took off. I thought he DROVE off (now looking back at the pics, I guess that would be kinda hard to do
) Needless to say, I bet this guy is out of a job.
It'* always nice to get a good report from the doctor, but keep up on the appointments. Injuries tend to manifest themselves later on after the incident.
All in all, glad nobody was hurt. Not even the drunk guy

WOW. I'm having a hard time understanding how anybody walked away from that. I can't process in my brain how that much trunk can just disappear. My expensive audio in my trunk would be DUST
I guess that'* why inline fuses are placed near the battery :P. But probably just because it'* possible for them to ground without completely losing the trunk.

Holy Crap, Terry!
I can't believe how fast the guy must have been doing to cause that sort of damage.
Glad you're overall okay. Hope they catch the SOB, he must have panicked and figured it will be hard to prove he was drunk. If anything, he'll get leaving the scene now, which is bad enough but not as bad as impaired.
