Default My homemade interactive TOUCHDash - Diagnostics screen

Here is a VERY SMALL portion of what this thing can do!

I thought this was cool enough to share.. this is the screen while driving on OBD mode.

The OBD software is EFILive v4 (for OBD I cars) (version 4 for OBD I cars) (approx $200 , trial version with fewer gauges is free)

It is in a subsystem of MediaEngine that controls all of my music watching. (FREE)

Touch screen LCD is a 7" widescreen - Xenarc 700TSV usb. (approx $400)

Not shown:
The GPS is a Motorola Encore GT (old one bought at a Swap meet for $22) with an amplified mag-mount antenna ($35).. i aquire 10 satellites in about 5-10 seconds

GPS software is Garmin nRoute (free, but the maps are approx $120)

Computer is a 1Ghz single board computer running in a toolbox thats duct-taped to my floor under the ashtray ($160. (It is going to e built INTO the dash behind the screen) with 512Mb of ram ($50) and 80 GB of storage ($20, you can find hard drives for practically NOTHING with rebates).

Sound on the board is sufficient, but i upgraded to a Creative SoundBlaster MP3+ USB soundcard and that thing ROCKS.. sound is pristine.

Near future plans:
Install a hacked Belkin router that eill enable me to LOG INTO my car via any wireless device (i.e. my iPaq) and start the computer, start teh car, lock/unlock, roll down windows. This thing will be running mostly off of solar power, and a spare battery in the trunk. Once im in the car it will turn into a USB wireless device for me to surf the web when i am near free WIFI hotspots.

'Nough technology yet?

hehe.. thats why its mounted to the frame of my car with security bolts taht only i have the wrench to... AND it records its position and reports it every 2 minutes while moving via HAM radio band APRS which then uses tons of local repeaters and eventually sends it back to me via the internet.

Heh, like half of the stuff you are saying is unbelieveable....but I believe you.

Its just funny how someone says something about something getting stolen, and then you list off the protection against it Its like unstealable.

Nice job. Can you get a daytime shot of the monitor? I was considering a VIA mini-itx board for a car PC. Any thoughts on those??
