John'* vents were pre-painted off the car. The cut locations were lightly feathered back within the area the vents would cover, then this:

You can see here the white doesn't match, but it doesn't have to. It could have been any color. We saved the OEM paint for the vents:

Sorry...my bad. Did you mask off the hood before cutting. That way no metal could scratch and hurt the current paint?
