So John, Are they going to be able to fix that glass today? I know they had to order it in.

Watch out for a second break in after you get the car fixed.

Glass is in (yay!!), stereo is in (yay!!!), and I'm back at work (not so much yay....). According to the receipt, that'* an $800 piece of glass!!

And, from my police experience, it'll probably be a week or two before the culprits come back. If not more, the neighborhood I live in is pretty freakin' quiet. First I've heard of something like this happening in the almost 5 years we've lived there. If it picks up, the first places I'll point is my ricer neighbor (his accura got hit, too), or the ricer family down the street. It'* they're fault for bringing the attention on us.

BUT, that don't mean I'll get back into the lazy habit of leaving the face plate on the stereo. Heck, I'm even mentally desiging a rig to remove the whole stereo with the push of a button. Kind of a PITA, but if it ain't there, they shouldn't want to break in for anything else.

Oh, and I found out this morning, they took all my lighters. Every time I buy a carton of smokes, they toss in a lighter. Must have had a dozen of them in the car (you never know when you or a friend/co-worker will lose one). They're all gone. Freakin crackbabies.....

That was the original theft det. design. I sold Kenwood'* that the whole unit pulled out of a docking sleve, before they went with faceplates. Kenwood even had a model that only a small piece of the face plate came off. I thought that was the best. Size of a fob instead of the whole thing.

I don't know if it was a Kenwood, but I had one of those "yank the whole thing" stereos a long time ago. Kind of a neat design idea. Push the button, the hanld pops out, and you carry (lug) it with you.

Back in the day, had the Cressida broken into in the same window on several occasions. They broke in, rifled through the glovebox, tossed papers around - and stole nothing. Go figure. :?

On another note, my dad used to have a beater '86 Jetta what we parked in the underground parking in the apt. complex we used to live in (sketchy sketchy area, it'* where the Cress was broken into). The trick? Roll one of the rear windows down halfway. Leave nothing in the car. C'mon in boys, rifle through it, just don't break the glass

I need to get into the habit of pulling my faceplate...I'm bad on it.

Figure at home the car is inside the locked garage, at work it'* in a security patrolled, fenced in lot and I simply don't think about it.
