Default 1991 Buick Century driver window motor

We are trying to replace the window motor in the drivers door of our 91 Century. There is a rod that is connected to the back of the motor. How do I unhook this? Or does anyone have instructions on motor replacement? Thank you.

A rod? If I remember correctly, the motor is pop riveted to the regulator, and the regulator is pop riveted to the inside door wall.....

You disconnect and remove the window.....disconnect harness from motor....drill out rivets and remove regulator with motor........now comes the fun part.....I believe there is a coiled helper spring......draw a picture of it'* positioning(for reassembly).......if you leave the spring on, and remove the pop rivets from motor, that regulator will spring on you and you will get hurt......

I usually lay the regulator down on the floor, with the spring facing upward......I put my foot on the spring, and using a pry bar, I force it under the spring to the middle and pry it up, and with my foot on it, and it goes nowhere...then remove the pop rivets from the motor and remove it from the regulator......

You can put everything back together with rivets or bolt/nuts.......you will need a special rivet gun to install the large rivets that hold the regulator to the door......

My husband gave up on this and now is trying it again. How do you remove the window? We have never seen a setup like this. Thank you ahead of time.

I leave them all the way up and run strips of tape down the window and up to the top of the door frame. A wadded towel underneath jammed in the door, once you remove the two bolts from the 'sash' which bolts the assembly to the glass.
The is what you will see looking into the door with the sash (white plastic) where it would bolt to the bottom of the window frame. Note the sash is replaceable, but they are discontinued and fragile.

The feeling of the rod is the regulator assembly. You positively have to remove the rivets holding the regulator to the door, then the rivets from the regulator to the motor.

I have not encountered the spring mentioned in the last series ('89 - '96) of the A-body myself. Just a cheap motor, cheap plastic and stamped metal regulator. with a cheap plastic tape drive. Identical to my Caprice, but with one more rivet in each and more room to work.

Thank you both for your help. As it turns out this did not have the spring in it. Works great. So glad this forum is here. Keep up the good work.

Glad we could help!
I absolutely loath changing window motors, especially the originals with rivets.
