Free Flow Exhaust or Not?
Ok.... I've been researching some past posts and I'm a little confused on this subject due to my past projects. In all of my past projects (all turbo), the more free the flow on the exhaust the better (ie. 3in pipe, high flow cat or race pipe, straight through muffler). Looking at past posts, it seems that somewhat restrictive mufflers are the norm on SC 3800s. I know there is a slight loss in torque, but won't you make that up with more boost? It would seem that the power curve would just shift up in rpm slightly, which would seem to be ok on FWD.... Too much torque down low would be unuseable anyway. Am I right or am I missing something?
our exhausts ( espically on the Series One), will be VERY sufficient well beyond what you can do to mod the car
the most modded S1 here on the club still runs the stock exhaust except for the Cat and ported manifolds
