Ok i have been going in circles on this for a while now and i think i know what i plan to do now. After talking to SSEi about what to do with the catalytic converter i think i have my solution. I plan to run two magnaflow 14807'* (pic on bottom) and get rid of the catalytic converter and the stock resonator and put in a long glass pack. And pipe size, i was thinking 2.25" press bent to give it some back pressure. The 2.25" pipe would go from the manifolds all the way back to the mufflers, so the whole exhaust would be replaced except for the manifolds themselves. Any opinions?

My biggest question is where are you going to fit two mufflers? GM used the crossflow muffler (single) due to lack of space. This is going to be a tight squeeze. Also, where are you splitting? After the downpipe? Or after the resonator?

You're going to add alot of cost to make this work, but gain little to no performance over just swapping to higher-flow components. Your tubing is already 2.5" mandrel-bent stainless steel. It came from the factory that way

It would be really different and look neat, but isnt something i would invest in because like will said a lot of money and almost no gain

Don't mess with the existing pipe if you dont have to, Bonnevile SSEi has one of the best stock exhaust systems on any car in its class. Upgrade the muffler and tips if you so choose, but leave the pipe. Feel free to do whatever with the res and cat, although I am a fan of leaving the cat on.

Once you have a few mod mores, do your headers

I'm with you on this. Somewhere I read that one car without a cat puts out as much as 100 cars with a cat and that are running within specs.

Will i plan to split the exhaust under the rear axle.

Yours might be 2.5" mandrel bent but mine isnt, the exhaust is still all factory but its 2.5" downpipe to the cat, then a little 2.5 section to the resonator then right after the resonator it is downsized to 2.25" mandrel bent to the muffler then 2" mandrel bent out each side. I know these pipe sizes are correct because i just measured them last weekend.

Also i wanted to go with the long glass pack instead of the "high flow cat" to get a louder sound out of it. My last car with the 3800 in it had a cat and flowmaster 80 series and it was mellow and reached its loudest note at around 2500 rpms then got quieter again and i did not like that. I have also heard that the catco, carsound, etc. high flow cats dont flow a whole lot more than stock.

Thats what im goin for, somethin different, the look and sound of the exhaust, and im getting a good deal on some of those mufflers too, so that kinda persuaded me.... opening up the exhaust more now will benefit me more down the line, i some good plans for this car. Jeff'* helpin me out on some
