Ok, so it'* blizzarding out and we went to go look at new trucks. The passenger window on my car was rolled down, and now it isnt rolling back up. A few days ago the window didnt work at all. If this the Infamous Regulator Problem??? Will the TechInfo article help us fix this?

When we hit the switch, there is crunchy motor noises but thats it.

The regulator is probably at fault. More than likely the cable pulled out of its plastic anchor. If you want to temporarily keep the window rolled up so the snow doesn't blow in, you can pull the door pad off and manually push the glass back up its track. You can then drive a sheet metal screw through the regulator track to keep the glass from falling back down.

If it is, yours will be the first reported failure (I believe) of the front window regulator going bad in that manner. We've had them bind up mechanically, but not where the cable has pulled through like the rear regulators. Removing, then reinstalling the motor would take care of that, but crunching was not one of the symptoms.

Checking to see if the front regulators would be able to be repaired in a similar manner as the rear is on my list of things to do, but keeps getting pushed to the back burner. If you do tear into it, pictures would be great!

Ours does the same thing. If we can get the window part way up and then pull while hitting the power switch at the same time we can usually get it to go back up on its own. Good luck.

It sounds as if there may be a problem with either the motor assembly to regulator gearing, or gearing in the motor itself. This is a link to a discussion started by Bob Dillon about a window problem that he was having, and getting grease into the motor. It'* for the previous generation Bonneville, but the 00+ motors are similar.

Ok, great tips guys! We just plastic-ed it for over night (thats not trashy or anything,..yuck) because we have no garage and it was too nasty out to work on it last night. We'll take it out to the shop later this morning (sadly, a 30 mile one way drive) and see if we cant at least prop the window up for the time being and deal with whatever is wrong mechanically at a later date.

We'll have little time today; We are painting a snowmobile hood, picking up our dog from the vet after an emergency surgery, and taking care of an immobile relative'* dog, all out of town, so we'll do the quickest fix possible for now. Thanks again!

Well, the regulator is shot. I may be able to have pics later, but we just shoved up the window for now, will probably look into a perma-fix later on. I dont think the regulator is repairable, the cable is sorta mangled and a few other pieces are pretty shot and ripped up.
