Default UPGRADING - Just the facts please.

I have a completely stock 1997 SE. I love this site and all of the information that I get from it, but sometimes it is overwhelming. My stereo upgrades are done, now its time for performance upgrades. Basically, I need a shopping list, what to get and the order to do it in. I know I am asking a lot but specifics would be great ie. what to get and where from. Things that I am interested in doing/getting. I know to remove the MAF screen and get a CAI, well which one, what are my options? Flowmaster muffler? which one works? See where I am going with this. I know the car is good, but i wanna make it better, and I know this is the place to get the 411. Thnaks in advance for the input.

I am going to give you some links that should cover all your needs short of suspension and computer needs.

The thrasher CAI is good, even without a box. Hector is also making a great CAI but is not quite done yet.

For real performance you should get rocker kits. Port and polished heads.

Now comes the fun. Exhaust.. I still believe a good local performance company can outfit you best. Careful a very large pipe will rob you of torque.

Headers they are also available.

Ignition options are in both stores. Transaxle options are in both stores.

Pillar pod really makes your car go very fast.lol

I have a drop spring option but as a one off product it will cost $500.00. If you can wait until the site is in full swing and can wait for the 25 people that are required for a group purchase the cost goes down to $260.00

The other suspension option is coil overs. Contact me if you want coil overs (domestic performance).

That’* all I can think of right now I am sure there is more. Oh and you can do most of this in any order you wish or what your pocket book feels is just.

Go with a CAI.. remove the MAF screen..get 180 T-stat.. tranny cooler.. */C pulley down to either 3.4 or 3.25".. gatorback belts.. cat-back system..NNAAWWZZZZ !!!! ( Most bang for the buck ). TB port and polish ( from what I've heard )...

umm... "Type R " or "SIR" sticker ??? A lot of ricers think they get more speed and power with them... ha ha ha

I think we're overwhelming Buddha again. My suggestion would be to start with the intake first. Biggest bang for your buck, with very little effort. Flip a coin on the MAF screen Also, next spring maybe, drop your thermostat to a 180°, and add a tranny cooler....yes, even if you already have one. A cooler intake runs more efficiently, and prevents alot of the heat stress our 3800'* suffer from. After you do all that stuff, you're really gonna have to spend some serious cash for more power. NOS, engine internal mods, warp drive.....these are all spendy.

Good luck, and keep us posted as to your progress. I'd be curious to see some 0-60 or 1/4 mile comparisons before and after each mod. Haven't done it myself, but it would be nice to get a general idea of what each mod gains.....in the real world.

Deathrat,

Would I be able to use the newer type 2 DIS system, say 94-95-96 on my 91 Bonnie with the type 1 magnavox system? Or will it not work at all........ :?: Just wondering
I'm not sure but I'll find out though!

Yes.. I totally agree.. the ignition system can wait till you have serious mod or money or idle problems....
