I'd clear codes with a reset then drive it around until all of the readiness checks pass in the PCM, and monitor for codes to re-post.

I did that drive more to clear the last monitor pending for the cat. They said they can pass it with some pending but not the cat as that is one beyond discussion has to be ready. So far no codes 7 out of 8 monitors ready and will take some highway and around town driving. Maybe something to do tomorrow drive to nowhere just putting miles on until cat is ready.

GM'* tend to be a PITA when it comes to readiness monitors. Usually the last one to go online is the EVAP. I'm surprised they discriminate which ones need to be ready. NY says any of 7 out of 8 must be ready.

It is the one for the 16 year old cat.. There is no way I want to put a new cat on a 16 year old car starting to rust. By the same token can;'t afford another car and the Corvette is miserable in snow. The stuff I found online says it may take as many as 5 drive cycles to get it ready. That is cold start close to engine and air being the same then warm up for 2 1/2 minutes the 55 to 60 for 5 minutes or so then in town driving and repeat and repeat and repeat..sigh..

That seems like a lot. I thought it was three cycles. I don't think it needs to be cold-cold each time it starts.

Well will go for a could of pointless rides today and tomorrow and see if I can get the monitor set.

What is important, is the idle.......don't start the car and take off with it.......start it, and let it idle for at least 5 minutes.....then go out on the highway and accel to 65mph, then cruise at 65 for a minute, then let the car decel down to about 50mph, and then accel to 65 again, and cruise.....do this cycle several times, and you should be ok.....

Do they all have to start from dead cold on each cycle?

I thought it would polite to report back on how I made out after all th gracious help I have been given here. First the Actron CP9690 is a nice scan tool that offers useful info. Second it will do ABS that others could not so works as advertised. Occasionally I have gotten an ABS light and all of YouTube and Google searches would have had me playing with the front wheel speed sensors/hubs and wiring and I had a history code for the right rear wheel speed sensor or wiring. Next a gas cap fixed the P0446 evap code and monitor reset and no MIL light. Next the dealer claimed that I could have any monitor not ready out of the 8 except the one for the cat. I had to bring it in to avoid the fine and get another 60 days to drive and get the cat monitor to set. It passed to my surprise and let the service guy know I was surprised it passed. He gave me the same story that the cat monitor is the only one that must be set all the while I am looking at the print out that says passed and cat monitor was not ready. I just said thanks and filed it away as another person that has risen to their person level of incompetence. Tomorrow I will check the CP9690 on my OBDI Corvette just to see what it offers on OBDI compared to the OBDI scan tool I have.

Cool, thanks for letting us know. I'm curious what it comes up with on OBD1. I have a couple of those floating around in my collection.
