Pontiac Grand Am Starting and Stalling Issues
I have 02 Pontiac grand am that I am having issues with it stalling after starting and when its idling.
we've checked the battery , alternator and starter . the fuel pressure gauge has been replaced. The stalling is internment with it. We've did the reset turn on 10 min times 3 then it will start up. It will go a week not do it then boom it won't start then wait and it will start. The ignition recall was done last year at gm. Its been a week and not done it once for the mechanic and we went to pick it up and half block it stalled out twice so its back in the shop and not doing it again. Any ideas ?

The "reset" you describe is related to the anti theft system. That may be a good place to focus your initial efforts. Do you have a security light on the dash? What is it doing when you try to start?
If you have to do a security relearn when it starts acting up, and it seems to correct it, I would start by checking for power issues. This can include a charging system test, battery test, etc. Also look for corrosion on major battery cables, ground points, etc.
Have you had the car scanned for any codes? Was it doing this before the ignition recall was addressed?

The SECURITY SYSTEM, only comes into play on startup.......If there is a problem, it will start and then immediately stall......once the vehicle starts and runs, it has no effect on the running of the car......so if the car is running and then you come to a stop and it stalls, it is not the SECURITY SYSTEM......could be a bad IAC, or a fuel pump on it'* way out, or a leaking fuel pressure regulator, etc.
It'* quite possible, you have more than one problem......you would need a scan tool capable of reading "B" codes, to see if there is a SECURITY problem......this is usually a B2958 or B2960.....
Like I said, if the car stalls, after the car is running, that is not a Security problem, it is something else....so like I said, you may have more than one problem....

X2^ The IAC controls idle and often the inside port gets carboned up.
Try cleaning the IAC https://www.gmforum.com/normal-maint...800-v6-307092/
Have you done a tune up including new spark plug & wires?
My Pk Ave would shake & stall when one of the plug wires was bad, acting like a misfire.
See video for Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR)
If you could get a fuel pressure gauge onto fuel rail, would be nice to know what readings are in psi, ignition on only, and then running.
Also look for any vacuum leaks, cracks in lines. A vacuum gauge can also be used to see what'* up.

Agree with IAC being suspect, and possible fuel pressure issue.
Ummm . . . I don't think it came with a fuel pressure gauge . . . so do you mean fuel pressure regulator?
Does it ever stumble when you accelerate quickly, especially at high RPMs?
How does the air filter look?
How long have you been driving on average when you come to a stop and it stalls?
Odometer?
Miles since last spark plugs?
Where does it live?
Have you verified that both battery terminals are tight?

The FPR was shown in video.

Hi Soft Ride, I agree, however, sashawrites129 said "the fuel pressure gauge has been replaced" so I was trying to get to the heart of what was really replaced as I know of no fuel pressure gauge that would have been already installed on this car.
