Just because you are suspicious of everything supercharged doesn't mean that everyone else is. When you figure the stock supercharged L67 can be stomped by a Sienna of today.

For a sleeper to be effective, the victim needs to have no idea what is about to hit them.

The 20 year old kid rolling in the v8 mustang his parents bought him probably has no idea what a Bonneville really is anymore, much less one from nearly 30 years ago.

Plus, given that you have shoved a v8 where it doesn't belong already, you likely already have the sleeper mentality, and an open mind because of it.

It'* the ones that think their Mustang is hot stuff, and believe that "grandpa" needs to be taught a lesson that are the primary target.

That engine bay is wide enough to hold a 454 Chevy Bigblock. Of course, serious modification to the trans tunnel would be needed, along with a custom frame for it to sit on, along with a way to convert it to RWD.

All I am hearing is:

I think it'* about time you bring us some information.

You need to begin some in depth planning, that revolves around the specific swap you are planning. I think you should start looking for a donor vehicle. Copart is a great place to look for wrecked cars.

If you are going RWD, you will be blazing your own path.

If you are going FWD, you are still limited by the platform. H bodies got the northstar at one point, and some w bodies also received a fwd ls engine.

It loops back to what your goals are, and the feasibility of them.

I don't think the Gen8 Bonneville ever had a factory supercharger, but yeah after that they did. An extended family member of mine had a 1991 Bonneville that I got to maintain for a while. It was zippy enough with the 165HP 3.8 . Adding another 50% HP would be pretty fast. Modding it for more HP would be a good sleeper, especially in today'* "newer is better" world. A lot of today'* cars are factory fast, but a lot of them are just kind of fast. Those would get eaten by a 400HP 1990 Bonneville (with good traction).

That having been said, I agree converting to RWD with a V8 would be a great sleeper, but would require a lot of fab, especially to stay under the low hood.

LOL and a giant muffler in the trunk to keep it quiet like a good sleeper.

Check out this thread:

FWD to RWD Conversion - 3800Pro.com Forum

I love the part where kitabel says:

Save yourself a lot of time:
1. take $10,000
2. burn it
3. then sell the car

Now, you have no car and much less money. But at least you didn't waste 2 years out of life doing it.

Want a RWD car? Buy one.
. . . and then there'* the story about the 4.3l rear-drive GP.

Agree, and well said. I've seen several huge projects like this get the good parts sold and the rest of it scrapped when the project is years old and unfinished. A FWD chassis cut up for a RWD conversion is a hulk of scrap unless it gets completed and actually works fairly well.

Meanwhile, if you really really really want a V8, a 5.3l LS4 V8 and 4T65 from a mid-2000'* Impala SS might have a chance of fitting in there. If it were my project, I'd still do an L67 with mods for similar horsepower and much easier assembly. It wouldn't take a whole lot to make an L67 reach the LS4'* 303HP .
