engine fire
Hi all,
I had the injectors pulled to clean them and my son cranked the engine and we had a small engine fire.
Looks like the wires to the injector are toast as well as the "vacuum tower?". The intake manifold has burns all over it but I think it'* still usable.
What is the "vacuum tower" called?
Anything else I should look for before trying to salvage this?
I also heard that the series 3 intake manifold bolts right on to the series 1 and is all metal. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks

Hey Randall,
No it does not. I just finished replacing the UIM and LIM gasket last winter. 180K No idea if it came from something else.
I replaced the UIM as well since it was leaking. Had to order a plastic one from doorman. my understanding was they made a different one for 92 than the other years.

Another concern to look at is see if it (vacuum distribution manifold maybe?) is to confirm it is the same as the GM unit. I seem to remember some issue with mine, like the old one didn't fit right so I had to use the new one when I replaced the UIM, which if that is the case, you will need to get one from Dorman, and not GM.
It may be time for a salvage yard trip, because it would also let you get replacement fuel injector harnesses, fuel lines, etc.
I don't know how hot it got under there, but my gut keeps nagging to urge replacement of the UIM. I wouldn't want it to crumble on you and make little plastic manifold bits get ingested, or anything else that may arise.
