Default 99 Bonneville Courtesy Light stays on

The only way I am able to turn off the courtesy lamp is by removing the 15amp fuse in the 6A position. I performed the MALL diagnostic test and it repeated three tones three times. During the I/O test, everything made the tone sound except using the door handle without opening the door (I replaced the fuse before doing the test), it was not unique to any particular door, every door only made the tone when opened, not when the handle was just used without opening the door.

Any ideas on what I should do next?

Unhook the door handle switch that didn't make the system bong. Problem fixed.

Have you checked the door jam switch to make sure it is functioning properly?

In 92-99 and maybe earlier GM used two switches, one on the handle, one in the jamb. That way if someone walked up and pulled the handle on the locked car, the interior lit up. The mention of the bong not occurring when the handle was pulled w/o being opened gives it away.

For most of us with key fob'* it'* something we'd never miss. I press the button, the car lights up and unlocks at the same time.

This issue is one that typically happens to the drivers door because of the amount the handle is used. By unhooking the switch to that handle, the circuit is broken and most of us would never know that it'* unhooked or hooked up.

it isn't just one door that the "bong" didn't sound for, it was all four doors, which makes me think that the problem isn't with a specific door but something that is in common with all four doors. also, I do not see the door jam switch anywhere, but i have only looked at the driver'* door and may have missed it anyway

and the system does bong for each door that is actually opened, just not when the door handle is pulled and the door stays closed

$20 says if you pop off the drivers door panel, find the wires going to the door handle and unplug it..that the lights go off after the usual 5 seconds or so after closing the door.

I've got paypal ready if I'm wrong. I've never looked to see if the passenger front door has the switch as well, the rear doors likely don't have the switch. The drivers door...I'm positive it has it..because I found it zip tied and had to figure out what it controlled.
