If you hit one at any decent speed you're gonna total your car, prob 75% of the time
Going to my parents in my 84 Olds Cutlass I hit the last deer in a crossing pack of 7 at about 65 (slowed down from oh say 90 when I saw them) completely punting the thing probably 40 yards or so. When the car stopped and I stopped shaking I got out to survey the damage. Knocked in one of the plastic grill covers and cracked the fiberglass front but no other damage. Couldn't say the same for the deer. I sold that car about 5 years later and it STILL had a big patch of deer fur caught in the front where it was pinched between the front cowl and the bumper.

Poor damn deer...

Pretty much the same happened to my husband, except he was going about 40 at the time (down from 60) and there was no damage to the car ('94 GP) at all. The poor thing was still alive and kicking when he got out to check it...he had to shoot it (twice ...9mm ). A few minutes later a cop showed up and asked him if he wanted it...he didn't, and I think the cop ended up taking it home for steak.
