Question Rear Vision / Back-Up / Reversing Camera

I have a 2010 Terrain and after two years of perfection the rear vision camera developed a glare and a white vertical line. Changed up the camera with no success -- it is not a camera issue; probable a processor or sensor problem.
GM will not do warranty work because in their Service Bulletin PI0385 they claim it is a normal condition.
Are others having this problem? Do we know for certain what the problem is?
GM needs our help!!
This is a safety issue as the design of the Terrain needs to have a camera so as to detect little children behind the vehicle.
Any comments are appreciated.

If you don't already have one, I would ask for a copy of the service bulletin. They are certainly subject to interpretation, and your dealership may be using a liberal interpretation to put you off. Also, service bulletins are only a guide to the dealership, and do not restrict your ability to complain and get what you need. If the bulletin is being incorrectly interpreted, or is correctly interpreted but it stands in the way of getting your issue resolved, ask to speak to the district service manager.

My bet is when you read the bulletin is does not cover what you experienced; a degradation in performance encountered 2 years after you purchased the vehicle.

Arrow Safety first

As of yet, the rear vision camera is not mandatory; but it looks like it will be by 2014 and most manufacturers are installing them now. The 2010 Terrain has one and needs one. What is my warranty for if not to cover within the specified time a defect????

GM has issued Service Bulletin PI0385 to cover all GM vehicles from 2008 through 2012. They have an enormous liability issue that they are trying to avoid. Rear vision cameras save the lives of children!!

I am polling GM owners and others to verify the extent of the problem -- the dealership is great but on this issue they take direction from corporate office.
Why?

And, GM is not offering any explanation. I believe becasue they installed inferior cameras and have a sensor problem.

Let'* see when the recall begins on GM'* rear vision camera (their version of the Toyota floor mat!).

Let'* help each other to get this safety issue addressed!

Didn't realize you were looking for a soap box instead of advice.

Default Back-up Camera Safety Issue

Yes, it may seem to you to be a soapbox but when the lives of children at at risk I will sound the alarm everytime! There is no compromising safety. Your comment does not help answer the query of this thread (and seems suspiciously like a GM company response).

I hope that every reader of this forum thread will read about the US government'* formal stance on the necessity of working rear vision cameras in all vehicles bu 2014.

So, back to the thread, does anyone know how to fix the vertical white line being displayed on a rear vision camera?

its probably a smear on your lens...

i used to build mirrors with the camera at a shop i worked at and they were a relatively new design, and kinda sketchy. can you post a picture of what its doing? if its just a white line its not that big of a deal, electronics develop issues thats a known fact. people have been driving for over a hundred years without backup cameras so your "luxury" as it would be considered isnt at the top of the list when it comes to driver safety.

also theres no need for ranting about on this forum just because you didnt get your way one time. taking your frustration out on us will get you nothing but a ban, so tone it down a bit.

Default Back-up camera safety and technical issues

It is not a smear -- the dealership has replaced the rear vision camera and yet the white vertical line remains.
If you have had this issue and/or know of a solution/cause, a posting would be appreciated.

When Buick66 mentions a smear -- what should I be looking for? I will work on getting a photo up -- good idea. Thank you.
