I think they work like dog whistles, they operate on a frequency that only the deer can hear. I bet you could mount them out of the way if you were worried about it.

I don't do much driving in areas where deer are, but there still are places where they can roam free, and I will probably be going on a few road trips this summer. You never know. But I'd HATE to hit one and kill it, and destroy my car. I've already replaced my front end once.
If I did get these I'd paint them my car color and put them on the very bottom of the bumper, in the hole near the radiator. But do these things have to be more in the open to work?

Bonnie94SSE i think that they just need air to push them, you could find a spot by the rad or the frame that is hit by air, but not on the body etc, and they would still work...

I had the whistles on my cars and trucks while living in Canada and they work for a while but for some reason they attract Harley Davison motorcycles. The owner of my Bonneville had nothing but problems with them attracting motorcycles. lol
They worked for me and I lived as a driver in deer country for over 11 years.
I also learned to pick up on glowing eyes very quickly.
My father did not have the whistles we are talking about and many times his Dodge charger either ate them or they flew over the hood.

If you hit one at any decent speed you're gonna total your car, prob 75% of the time, and most of the time the deer wont live for long. (although that cow in "Me Myself and Irene" was pretty damn funny)

LOL thats great! We owned a pontiac 6000 LE i believe, but maybe it wasn't an LE. Anyways we had that when we moved to Florida, but we dumped our Saab for lack of A/C. In 91 we sold it for.. yup another pontiac. a Transport, and that did us well till 98, when we bought our Yukon. Then in 03 i picked up my Bonnie, and never looked back... Cept at the ricers..

Hey pete, i saw some neat deer thingies at the super target in town. They are paralell to the mounting surface, so if you put them on the top edge of the lower air damn lip they would sit in the air damn nicely. It had two for each mount, and it was pretty cheap.
