I will agree that you need to do it more often than they suggest. However, this is true across the board with all things maintainence. I don't wait 7,500 miles to change my oil and only change the filter every other time like the dealer suggests either.
The lab testing wasn't done after 50,000-100,000 miles. Sometimes real world means everything.
