Default Help? need hp

Well, let me start by saying......I know jack bleep about automobiles. The only things I know about my car is concerning things that have broken, or had to be replaced because I watched how they were fixed and learned. I'm not an idiot, just a little impaired when it comes to all things auto.

Ok, well since I'm a poor bastard, I can't get a new car. My 93 bonneville se is the only vehicle I've ever had. It'* a great car in my opinion, drives good, goes fast enough etc etc. However there are many who would call it a "granny car". I really resent this statement, so I decide I'm gonna fix it up. Of course I know this will cost money, but hey I'll have to do a little at a time.

Is there some sort of govenor chip on my car that keeps it from going to it'* full potential, or do I just need to look into cool air intake or something like that for more hp?

The fastest I can get it is 110 downhill, and when it gets there it feels like it'* still got some power. Then again, maybe it doesn't. I have no idea, can someone help me?

Your top end is limited by the PCM to 108mph due to the factory rating of stock tires. You're starting with the Series 1 L27 engine at 170hp. Can you get more? Absolutely........but before you start, switch to a 180 Thermostat and add a 20 dollar tranny cooler. Wise investment before you start modding.

After the cooling, go after the intake and exhuast. On the L27, don't increase the pipe diameter, or at least not much. Don't go 3" for sure. There'* some talk that this may cost you low-end torque. Go with a high-flow cat and good muffler, then at the same time, open up your intake. This will let it breathe from both ends. A custom ADTR intake is made to order for you. After these basic mods, you can go with a chip. JET seems to have discontinued the chip for your car, but Superchips may still carry one. Getting an even 200hp out of your motor without tearing it apart seems reasonable.

If you really wanna get crazy, you can think about ported and polished heads and lower intake, oversized valves, maybe even a cam. Going 240 isn't that much of a stretch for a weekend of work. You have to decide if the age and miles on your car are worth the extra abuse you're going to dish out.

A chip may be too early right now, besides its frustrating to find one for the 92-94 Bonnevilles...believe me of all people.

Once you do the tranny cooler and 180 themostat like will said you can move on to exhaust and intake, however I personally believe a tranny cooler can wait till summer. So if you want to be careful with your money go with the 180 thermostat. Grandprixstorie.com carries a Hypertech for $11.

After than go with plugs and wires. Keep that spark nice and clean. Good wires for your money are Taylor. Ask will on the price. As for plugs, I'm running Splitfire...many bad mouth them but so for so good. But I personally would still recommend AC Delco Platinums. Best you can get from AC Delco.

Then go exhaust. To give you a rough idea, my Dynomax muffler, piping from the resonator back, clamps, bending, labor, etc etc cost me little more than $300. I will soon research Hi-Flow cats, which you should do now and get it over with. $150 is a rough estimate on a cat.

Then intake, go for the cheaper stage 1 ATDR CAI. Only drawback between stage 1 and stage 2 is your stuck with a steel pipe for stage 1, not aluminum. But the steel is painted red so its faster than the aluminum anyway.
So your looking at $145 there.

After this point get nuts. Chip, ignition, nitrous, turbo *cough* *cough*, rockers, etc.

Hey, you L27 guys aren't gonna gain anything from rockers. Remember a couple weekends ago when Josh tore his top end apart? I neglected to inform the masses.........the L27 has roller rockers, just like the L36 and L67!

We had a thought, we were probably going to offer Ported Exhaust Manifolds, Hi-flow cat/downpipe and catback exhaust in one package. It would be easier and the whole exhaust would be done in one shot.

I'm exactly the opposite of you, I did the CAT cuz it was shot, waiting to do the muffler. All the guts are blown out of my muffler, anyway, so it should be pretty performance!
