Responded already on another forum, but responding here also in case any others have the same question here.
Soldier and heat-shrink wrap it, it should be fine, I've never done it myself, but read something about a GM certified mechanic of 20 years doing this same thing, and by the explanation he provided I'm sure you'll be fine doing it the way you are considering doing it.

you solder and heat shrink everything on your car because your car is always moving and vibrating so the other ways might be alright today but as it starts loosening it will cause resistance which lowers power available to whatever load you are wiring. more resistance also makes more heat at the splice which cause more resistance and so on untill there is no more power left for your device and now you got to find out why its not working anymore. for any one that is reading this, DO NOT use pinch on splices anywhere on your car.

When I installed the updated DELPHI fuel pumps on a S10 and a Bravada I used solder, heat shrink and then electrical tape for the new connector harness. Works fine.
Heat shrink can be pricey at the auto part stores, Wal-Mart does sell heat shrink in the automotive section.
