There are some that would tell you that the resonation chambers are installed on the intake box to tune the intake for additional power. There were none of these on my OEM box.
Theory having something to do with energy pulses.

Elimination of them on new models could have been a cost saving measure by GM

I love the whine..........almost as much as the wine here.

My vote is rip it off and enjoy the sound and freer restriction.
