not to poke fun or anything.. but if your in stop go heavy traffic ... does it really matter if you drop 10-15 hp?
and while I do understand throwing the fan on high for racing ... but when your normal driving isn't this the purpose of the normal fan control to come on when your gettin a lil warm .. you know auto matic like and all? and yes I know the stock ECM temps for fan turn on kinda suck (it'* like 195 or 210 or something stupid? ) but the chips and OBD2 tuners change that ...don't they?
hey maybe I'm all wrong but that'* kinda how I understand these things work

Well.. like you stated.. the default set temp is high before fan kicks in auto matically.. but I don't like that.. so I kick in the A/C to have both fans running.. it'* not so much the 10-15HP I lose.. it'* the MPG.. and knowing that from 30KMH down.. I can see the boost gauge start climbing ( as RPM drops.. ) This just means I have to be harder on the brakes a lil..
Now to most people that won't matter or care.. but to me it does.. and to most people on those hot days.. they're the ones sittin @ the side of the road with their hood open.. if both fans are on.. and the temp climbs up higher then normal ( the hottest it'* been is a tad over TDC on the gauge ) then I know I have a coolin issue right away and can pull over a stop the engine instead of having puff of smokes come up and needin costly replacement cause they waited for it to kick in @ 220.. and by the time it start going higher then that and they realize it then.. well.. it might be a bit late.. again.. personal preference.
In normal driving.. I never need it ( unless it'* freakin hot outside and I need the A/C on ) .. I"m runnin 1 mark down from centre.
sure.. if I get a mod pcm I can have intense set it up to have fan come on whenever.. but I dont' have that kinda cash right now..

I think having control over the fans is an important thing.. although I see where you are going with the automatic stuff, but human interface can sometimes prove better than computer interface. Just because some things vary, and that causes the computer to be off occaisonally, because it can't plan for everything.

My engine runs cool compared to most everyone here. I am missing the weather stripping on the hood though.
I run them when i'm at a bank, in rush hour, or about 2 minutes before i turn the car off. At the strip i ran them nonstop, but i only ran the car about 1/2 mile every 1-2 hours... So i guess i shoulda kept the amps...
