HVAC Programmer Module
on my 91 Toronado the other day I turned the key off and the blower motor kept running. I had cold air but the blower was stuck on hi. it did this for a couple days and I would just unplug it and plug it back in when I drove it.
So I noticed the wires on the connector were melted. It sits right behind the exhaust manifold. when I repaired them I wanted to check it before I put heat shrink on them so I had the key on and I accidentally touched them together and they sparked. Well after that I now have no blower at all.
(insert I'm a dumb *** here) So I got my manual out and did the troubleshooting chart and when I got to the part where it says I should have voltage at a pin on the programmer I didn't have any. It said to check for a short to ground and if I didn't have one I should replace the programmer.
So unless you guys have some other advice I'm going to do that.
The problem is this is a 32 yr old car. I can't find one anywhere, not Ebay or anywhere else. Except for the motor. So I took it apart and put 5 volts on the motor and it moved fine both way, so I guess the motor is good and the programmer is bad. So does anyone have any idea where I can get one or have it rebuilt?
Let me know what you think and if I'm on the right track. The motors alone are going for $100 to $150, I can imagine what a rebuilt module will cost!
Thanks for any advice!

"programmer"=control module, right?
I'd bet the module is damaged inside with unfused power shorting into the wrong circuit. You'd need a good diagram to be able to troubleshoot it.
You might want to contact the folks at modulemaster.com to see if they might have a recommendation on repair/replace options.

the FSM calls it a programmer. I have the module in the dash with the controls and display on it (Electronic Climate Control ECC). And the programmer is behind the glove box and has vacuum lines coming out of it and 1 rod that moves a door. And then a power module that does what the resistor modules did.
The ECC sends what it wants to the BCM and the BCM tells the programmer what to do and the programmer sends a signal to the power module. The power module sends power to the blower. You probably know all this already, sorry if I'm to wordy.
I took the programmer out and took it apart and can't see anything burnt or otherwise bad. From what I read when the blower won't shut off at all the programmer is bad anyway. so I don't feel too bad about shorting it out. I just hope it'* repairable and I didn't damage it further.
thanks for the info on modulemaster.com.

Ah, now I know what you mean. I've never heard it called a "programmer" before. Nothing wrong with too many words!

no dice on module master. also another place said no. I'm waiting to hear from a 3rd.
I put it back in because everything works except the blower. So I ran wires to the blower and then hooked up the ground and hooked the other wire to the battery with an alligator clip. I just have to hook it up every time I get in the car and unhook it when I get out. but at least now I have A/C. The blower is on high speed naturally. but I haven't used it yet, I want to watch it under the hood and make sure the wires aren't drawing to many amps and melt.

Sounds like a good plan for now.

Good News! I decided to get the power module, put it in and it fixed it. everything working as it should.
Whew! I dodged a bullet on this one.
As usual, thanks for the help.
