Hi all. I have an '04 Silhouette with an ABS/Traction control problem. Both will randomly activate for no reason while driving. When accelerating, "Traction Control" will light up and you'll hear that grinding traction sound. When braking sometimes, you'll feel the ABS kick on and hear that famous ABS grinding sound. Wheel sensors have been checked and replaced. It seems to be baffling two different mechanics that have looked at it. At this point, I just want to disable the ABS, but it doesn't look as easy as other cars I've had. On other cars, ABS had its own fuse. Just pull it and bingo, no ABS. This thing has the ABS/PCM mixed as one fuse. Pull that and the whole van turns off. Any other way to disable this thing until I can figure out the problem? There'* a switch to turn off the traction which I use, but ABS isn't so easy. The van has weird electrical issues that I'm presuming may be part of this issue.

You should be able to unplug a wheel speed sensor, and that should take care of it.

I think he pulled the main fuse for both modules. There is another fuse #5,, look it up in your owners manual.

It'* quite possible, the system is just operating normally......

For example,. if you accelerate hard, and one wheel is in dirt and the other is on dry pavement, one wheel slips and the traction control is activated......the same thing can happen due to uneven tire wear, i.e., you destroy a tire and replace it with a new one......the tire on the opposite side is half worn....one tire will "grab" the road better than the other, causing a slip on accel, or a slip on braking....

One thing a GM tech would do after checking tire wear/pressures, is road test the vehicle with a Tech II scan tool attached, and take a snapshot, while braking or accelerating......if there is an activation, the snapshot can narrow it down to which wheel speed sensor "circuit" may be causing the problem....notice I said circuit....sometimes it'* the harness not the sensor, that is the problem....
