Default 98' Olds Bravada, trans. slips

165k miles, saw a similar post for an olds 88 w 350k miles, you said it needed rebuilt. Mine shifts from 1 to 2 with a jerk and has no passing gear. Did this before and added fluid. Worked good for about a year. Now it'* doing same thing, fluid level is fine. Recently just spent alot on brakes, rotors, calipers, new tires, labor, plus costly past repairs. Hopefully just needs filter/fluid change. Can't afford to trade up.

From this description I infer that it does not shift to third or fourth. Does it shift to freewheel/engine revving or does it just stay in second?

What do you mean by "no passing gear" ?
