Default 97 Olds 88 AirConditioning switch

Hey Guys,

My 97 Olds 88 is developing a problem with the AC switch...

When I press the button to turn on the AC, I have to hold it in for like 10 seconds before the green light will come on and the ac to kick in

I used to be able to just tap the switch, and instant green and ac would be on

The ac still blows cold and works perfectly, Just this switch problem of turning it on and off is developing, and seems to be needing to hold the button down longer and longer to get the act to come on

What'* going on? any Ideas?

My first guess is the contoller. I can't think of any other reason why you would have to hold the button like that.

Default ac

The controller? what exactly is the controller? part #?

also note, If you turn the car off with the ac still on, when you turn it back on, it works immediately, green light is on as soon as you start it

also, to turn off ac, I have to hold the button in for like 10 seconds to get it to turn off also

I don't have any of that info. When I say controller, I mean the head unit like thing that has all the buttons. It sounds like a physical issue with the physical button. I can't think of any other explanation.

Your best bet may be another used unit.

I agree with Randall. Don't know which specific version you have, but there are quite a few on Ebay.

so everyone thinks it maybe the physical ac button that i'm pushing?

it is the simple, vacuumed control panel

If its a panel similar to this one

Then I would assume, it would be easier to just goto the junk yard and find one similar to what you have and swap it out.
